I love to create calming, healing spaces that are a personal retreat from the chaotic world. My focus is to create a space that engages all of your senses: ones you never want to leave whether at work or at home. A longing, holding space that you lose all sense of time like being places in a sacred healing chamber to recharge and revitalize. This can be created in any design style. I was introduced into creative design at a very young age. My mother started a home décor, floral design & gift business when I was 5 years old. Her creative workroom became the play space for my three younger siblings & me.

By my eighth birthday I was gift-wrapping for special occasions at the store. These gifts were not wrapped in the typical department store style - they were works of art! Adorned with beautiful large creative bows that were elegant and artful. Each bow was dressed with trinket that resulted in tips from the customers far exceeding my $.25/hour salary! At 12 I was promoted to sales person enticed by a $.25/hour raise. I worked with customers creating picture arrangements for walls in their homes, assisting them with colors & accessories, and creating custom floral arrangements. I also offered ideas and suggestions on furniture arrangement, paint and lighting.

My talent expanded as I started creatively dressing the store windows and displays. My floral arrangements became more elaborate with requests for custom pieces. At home, I was in charge of my siblings and making sure that household chores and cleaning duties were done. The word "cleaning" to me meant "redecorating" and rearranging. On a weekly basis, my mother's entire house would be redecorated and redesigned - pictures, furniture, rugs, floral arrangements, everything! My mother never knew what her house was going to look like when she came home!

What is my formal design training?

Eight short words - My mother, God's gift and years of experience. I went to school for a business degree. Interior design and decorating have always been my love, passion, hobby, and therapy. In addition, I gained valuable experience working with three different designers in Austin, TX and assisted a local faux painter. My father owned a construction company, among other things, so I was always around creating and building things. Through these experiences, I discovered that I am more of an intuitive, roll-up-your-sleeves-get-dirty designer and fit better outside of the traditional designer model.

I love shopping at discount stores, consignment shops, goodwill, and garage sales, flea markets and estate sales - if you want to spend a lot, I can do that too! I create unique art pieces, wall hangings and custom floral arrangements specific to a client's design goals and project. It is most rewarding to complete and entire project in a few days instead of months. I always look for ways to save clients money; to create something for nothing, and work with treasured and unique items a client may have stored in a closet, attic or garage. Often clients have great elements already in their home that simply need a fresh eye or repurposing to bring it to life. Clients are overcome with excitement when their space is transformed with ordinary items into extraordinary works of art that have meaning and loving memories for them creating their "dream room".

I am in tune with the positive effects a calming space has on the individual. Clients often comment that my rooms touch and sooth their soul. Scents, sounds, things that feel good to the touch, colors and well placed furniture and accessories all most coordinate and fluidly flow to evoke a calming / relaxing emotional and physical response. Creating a calm and tranquil ambiance that can be deeply felt the minute you walk into one of my custom designed spaces has become my signature design.

For ten years I owned a unique fitness, wellness, and healing business that specialized in healing and revitalizing the body, mind and spirit the key component was the interior design creating a relaxing and grounding environment that reduced stress, shifted body chemistry, supported the healing process, and improved well-being. Interestingly enough, the facility brought more interior design clients than it did fitness and wellness clients!

Now I am back to my passion of design with "Calming Spaces Interiors, Design & Remodeling". Assisted by a talented crew of individuals, sub contractors and artisans, we are been successful at doing HGTV style makeovers, remodels and new construction in the Austin, Houston & San Antonio areas.
